Abstract

Classic or conventional fertilisation (IVF) consists of placing the oocytes obtained after controlled ovarian stimulation in contact with a certain concentration of sperm, so that the best sperm fertilizes the egg under conditions. The introduction of the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in 1992 was a revolution in the field of Reproductive Medicine, relegating the classic IVF technique to exceptional cases in many public and private AHR (Assisted Human Reproduction) centres, and even to its total abandonment. Overuse of the ICSI technique leads us to consider a comprehensive review of the cu- rrent situation, so that the use of one or another technique conforms as much as possible to clinical criteria. The main in- dications of the different assisted reproduction techniques have been analysed.
